Van Thompson
Van Andrew Thompson, age 79, of The Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia died on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
Van was born on September 7, 1946 in Roanoke to the late Olen Madison Thompson, Sr. and Thelma Frances Graham Thompson. He was a quarry truck driver and of the Catholic faith. Van was a very sweet soul who wore a smile like a badge. He loved gardening and enjoyed creating his own art by sketching, painting and coloring. He also enjoyed playing the guitar in his younger years alongside his family that he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Frances Thompson Graham, Virginia Teresa Thompson Irvin, Thelma Sue Thompson Haynes, Vada Louise Thompson, Katherine Frances Thompson Gilliam, and Sally Annie Lorraine Thompson Clinebell, and two brothers, Olen Madison Thompson, Jr. and Frank David Thompson.
He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
The family would like to extend gratitude to Jonathan Andrews at the Springs Nursing and Rehab facility for being a special friend to Van during his stay.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date, and his remains will be interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington.
