Velma C. Thompson

THOMPSON, Velma Pauline (Conner) of Salem, VA passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022; peacefully in her home at the age of 86. She was born to the late Richard and Virgie Conner of Bent Mountain, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Roosevelt Thompson. She was affectionately known as “Polly” by nickname, however, her preferred titles were Momma, Granny and Memaw. She retired from K-Mart as a Supervisor after 25 years of service. Velma enjoyed cheering on the Yankees, feeding her deer family, playing cards and caring for others. She will be dearly missed by numerous family, neighbors and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved children-David Thompson (Linda), Curtis Thompson, Donna Smith (Rusty), Johnny Thompson (Linda) and Angela Russell (Herman). Her spirit will be forever in the hearts of her grandchildren-Samantha Morris, Erin Clinevell (Chad), Zack Smith (Ashlee), Travis Smith (Julie), Andrew Thompson, Corey Thompson (Lexi), Callie Thompson (Mike) and treasured great grandchildren-Kamrhen Thompson, Eithen Morris, Connor Clinevell, Collin Clinevell, Emmett Smith, Wyatt Smith and Lola Smith.

The family will hold visitation at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 12:30pm until 2:00pm. A funeral service will directly follow in the Chapel at 2:00pm with Rev. Ken Nienke officiating. Burial will be held in Sherwood Memorial Park.
