Verna Doss Brooks

Verna Louise Doss Brooks, age 99, passed away on Sunday, September 28th, at her home in Lynchburg, Virginia. Born in Lynchburg on August 9, 1926, she was the youngest daughter of William Walter Doss and Edna Kidd Doss. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Otis Doss, Charles Doss, Larion Doss, and Howard Doss, sisters Ruby Ogden, Rhoda Doss and Pauline Doss, her husband Lester Brooks, infant twin sons Larion Lewis and Lester Wayne Brooks, and granddaughter Wendi Brooks Daniel. She is survived by her son William F. Brooks and partner Sharon Cash, daughter Cynthia Orkin and husband Harry, grandson William A. Brooks and wife Nancy, great granddaughter Crystal Parsons, great grandson Vincent Brooks and great-great granddaughter Seaona Jett as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her “adopted family” Penny, Pat and Cody Riley, Robert and Aleah Parsons, Curtis Roberts, Brianna Yancey, River Yancey, Mason Johnson and Steve Purvis. She also leaves behind her cats Miss Marple, Sherlock, Poirot and Dudley.A special thank you to her hospice nurse Kasey Cash and to Kayla Fuller who took care of her at night in her last days.According to her wishes, there will be a closed casket, no visitation and a graveside service at Fort Hill Memorial Park on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 10:00 am.
