Vernol Kacel Witcher
On Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Cardinal Senior Living, Danville, Virginia, God reached down and called home our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend, Vernol Kacel Witcher, Sr.
He was born on April 14, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Wade and Martha Witcher. In his later years, Vernol accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at New Design Baptist Church in Axton, Virginia, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, nurturing others in their walk in Christ.
Mr. Witcher proudly served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he built a successful career as a Programmer Analyst and Project Manager, retiring from V.F. Corporation after many years of dedicated service. Outside of his profession, Vernol found joy in home improvement projects, gardening, and caring for his yard.
He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Yolanda Pool (Richard) of Blairs, Virginia, and V. Kacel Witcher, Jr., of Martinsville, VA; three brothers, Milton Witcher and Carlton Witcher (Betty), both of Axton, Virginia, and Kenneth Witcher of Woodbridge, Virginia; five grandsons, Erique Pool (Tiara) of Atlanta, GA, Jordan Lee of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jason Pool of Waynesboro, Virginia, Ethan Pool of Blairs, Virginia, and Joshua Witcher of Martinsville, Virginia; one granddaughter, Shiloh Witcher of Martinsville, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Isabella “Rachel” Davis Witcher, one sister, Carelene Hodge, and nine brothers, Waverly, Calvin, Clifford, Lawerence (Larry), Jerry, Murray, Michael, Roger, and Ray.
Vernol will be remembered for his quiet strength and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy will continue to live on in the lives of all who knew him.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 2, 2026, 12:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Service, West End Chapel with Apostle Robin Cook and Dr. Maurice Ferrell officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
At other times, the family will receive friends and family at the residence each afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
