Vernon Claude Berger

Vernon C. Berger, II, age 73, of Botetourt County, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Carrington Place at Botetourt following a long illness.

Vernon was born in Potsdam, New York July 19, 1950 and lived in Botetourt since 2019. He was the son of the late Vernon C. and Theresa Hartle Berger. Vernon served as a Corpsman in The United States Navy for twenty-two years serving aboard the USS Forestall and the USS Enterprise. He received the Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation with FMCOI, third Good Conduct Award, Fleet Marine Force ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and FMFCOI, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, M-16 Rifle Marksman, .45 Caliber Pistol Marksman, ESWS Breast Insignia.

In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his wife Pamela Bahm Berger; and brother, Robert Berger. He is survived by his sons: Daniel Berger (Amanda Porterfield) of Newport, Virginia, Lucas Berger of San Diego, California; daughter, Hiliary Berger (Jose) of San Diego, California; grandson, Hadrian Taylor; brother, Richard Berger and sister, Judy Berger both of Potsdam, New York.

Private services will be conducted.
