Vernon Eugene Young

Vernon Eugene Young, 71, of715 Susan Lane, Martinsville, VA transitioned on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Waddell Health and Rehab Center in Galax, VA. He was born in Martinsville, VA on June 8, 1949 a son of the late Muncie and Bertha Turner Young. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Joe, Franklin, Herman, Truman, and Harry Young; two sisters, Martha Chaney, and Myrtle Penn; and one step daughter, Pamela Hatton.
He was a U. S. Army veteran and was a former employee of Martinsville City Purification Department.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rachel, of the home; two sons, Bruce (Shelia) Davis, of Jarrett, VA; and Timothy (Cortney) Young, of Charlotte, NC; one step-daughter, Charlonda Hatton, of Maryland; four step sons, Carl (Dionne) Hatton, Jr., of Florida; Charles Harper, of Martinsville, VA; Torrence Redd, of Bassett, VA; and Kendrick Redd, of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Lucy Leath, of Martinsville, VA; two grandchildren, Dominique and Jasmine Davis.
Memorial service will be held Monday, March 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services Chapel with Bishop Lewis Simmons, officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at the home.
All services will be in accordance with CDC guidelines which includes facial coverings and social distancing.
