Veronika B. Kavelines

Veronika B. Kavelines, age 92 of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Friendship Health and Rehab Center South following a long illness.Veronika was born in Worms, Germany March 17, 1931 and lived in Roanoke most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Heinrich and Luise Strack Blasius. Veronika was a “War Bride”, meeting her husband Vyto near the end of World War II. They married and after his career in the United States Army, they settled in Roanoke. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years and worked for Friendship Health and Rehab, and was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church.In addition to her parents, Veronika was preceded in death by her husband, Vyto Kavelines; and her sister, Marguerite Blasius. She is survived by her dear friends: Arlene Powers of Roanoke, and Ruth Holley of Cloverdale.A committal service honoring her life will take place 2:00 pm Friday, December 22 at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 7271 Cloverdale Road Roanoke with Fr. Daniel Cogut officiating.
