Virgil Glenn Ferguson

June 16, 1938 - February 18, 2026

Virgil “Glenn” Ferguson 87, of Bassett passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 16, 1938 to the late Virgil Greene Ferguson and Lessie Irene Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he was also proceeded in death by brothers James, Gene, Wimpy, Ausby, Ronald and Melvin Ferguson. He was also proceeded by sisters, Violet Byrd and Barbara Ann Goad. 

Glenn served proudly in the United States Air Force for two years. He drove a cab for Bassett for over 20 years and also drove a truck for Bassett Mirror Company. He finished his career with Swift Trucking where he received the plaque for driving one million miles. He never met a stranger and could always strike up a conversation. He loved camping , fishing and spending time with Family and his fur babies Gracie, Timber, Milo, Remi, Peanut and Charlie Brown (RIP).

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Laverne “Sissy” Ferguson. Also surviving one son James Samuel Ferguson and one daughter Della Chitwood, two granddaughters Hannah Nicole Ferguson and fiancé, Blayne Lutz and Meagan Faith Chitwood and fiancé James Anglin. He is also survived by one sister Patricia Rakes and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 11 AM at Bassett Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Alverson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the home.

The family would personally like to thank  Salem VA Medical Center,  Mountain Valley Hospice Nurses and all the staff at Mountain Valley - Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home . Also family friend Jason Alverson, who always came when needed. We truly appreciate him for always being there.
