Vivian Harris Cassell
Vivian Harris Cassell, 87, of Madison Heights passed away Friday, May 2, 2025 surrounded by those she loved. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Pittman Harris and Emma Lillian Mayhew Harris.
Vivian, affectionately known as “Hosey,” was born on August 13, 1937, and lived a life defined by deep family values and unwavering Christian faith. A devoted wife and loving mother of two, she worked diligently in various roles throughout her life, including at the Bedford Dress Factory, General Electric, Kmart, and Kroger.
Vivian was a godly woman who cherished her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a faithful and active member of the Lynchburg Church of God of Prophecy, where she created cherished memories with the senior saints. She also enjoyed the fellowship of Amelon United Methodist Church and was a proud member of the Madison Heights Ruritan Club, contributing enthusiastically to their community events.
Vivian found joy in many hobbies—photography, bird watching, drawing, painting, and most of all, spending time with her beloved family, of whom she was immensely proud. She was a true prayer warrior, teaching her children how to pray and demonstrating the sustaining power of prayer through her life.
Proverbs 31 paints a picture of a woman of strength, character, and devotion—and that picture perfectly reflects Vivian. She was joyful, generous, and full of encouragement. Her smile could brighten any room, and her sense of humor made people want to stay a little longer in her presence.
In her younger years, Vivian sang in a gospel trio known as The Harris Sisters with her two sisters, Peggy Johnson and Donna Wright. Together, they traveled to church meetings, sharing their music and faith. Vivian also had a love for playing the guitar.
She found her soulmate in Carl Cassell, with whom she shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Vivian was truly a woman who touched many lives. Her legacy of faith, love, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents Vivian was preceded in passing by her sisters Kathleen Ellis, Betty Phillips and her brother C.W. Harris.
Those left to cherish Vivian's memory include her loving husband Carl Cassell; her children Craig Cassell, Carol Slusher; her grandchildren Benjamin Slusher and his wife Leeza Slusher, Nathan Slusher; and her siblings Peggy Johnson, Donna Wright, Melvin Harris and Charlie Harris; and numerous family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Centra Hospice team for supporting them during this time.
A celebration of Vivian's life will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 11am at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with a graveside to follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitten Monelison from 5-7pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
