Walter Lee Varney

Walter Lee Varney, 66, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024. He was born May 28, 1957, in Williamson, West Virginia, to the late Lee Alfred Varney and Elizabeth Pricey Deskins.Walter was of the Christian faith, and he was a 1977 graduate of Martinsville High School. He attended trade school at the College of Albemarle Community College. He loved to fish off the pier, playing the guitar, and was a wonderful singer and loved poetry. Walter coached little league and enjoyed playing golf. He was an excellent tradesman and did beautiful, amazing work. In addition to his many other talents, he was an ordained minister and was known for being very reliable.Walter was an amazing father figure, not just to his children, but to his brothers and sisters, as well.In addition to his mother, Walter is survived by his daughter, Heather Hagler Snyder (Jason), son, Lee Alfred Varney (Jacqui); mother to children, Cynthia Robertson; sisters, Cheryl Ann Doughtie (William), Rhonda Lynn Varney, and Crystal Jean Cole; brothers, Robert Salton Varney, and James Shelby Cole; grandchildren, Julianna Hagler, Desmond Snyder, Skyler Varney, Gryphon Varney, and Claire Varney; niece, Bobbi Leigh Doughtie; and nephew, William Thomas Doughtie (Emma).All services are private.
