It is with a sense of profound loss and loving remembrance that the family ofWanda Lou Caldwell Hypes announces her peaceful passing on June 27,2024, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Pulaski. Born on a crisp autumn day onNovember 12, 1953, in the lush hills of Virginia, Wanda's journey was onemarked by joy, dedication, and an unwavering love for her family.
Wanda's life was a tapestry woven with the love of her cherished husband, Lee Hypes, and his daughters, Cindy Hypes Turner of Orlando, Florida, and Kimberly Hypes Scheuerman of Blacksburg, Virginia (married to Jim). She was a beacon of strength and guidance for her brothers Lewyn Caldwell (Debbie), Lloyd Caldwell (Delaine), Richard Caldwell (Carolyn), and her sisters Virginia Lucas (Calvin), Mabel Peters, and Nancy Moore (Todd); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and more. Her life was enriched by the laughter and adventures shared with special nieces, April Lucas Wood (Stephen), Rachel Lucas DePue (Andy), special nephew, Chris Lucas (Amanda) and their children who she loved like grandchildren: Alex, Molly, Eli, Levi, Scarlett, Annabelle, Tiana, Cordell and Maverick.
Though preceded in death by her parents, Richard Caldwell and MarybelleSnidow Caldwell, her sister Sallie Caldwell Lucas, brother-in-law RandyPeters, and nephew Conrad Lewis Peters, Wanda's legacy of love andcompassion continues to resonate through those who had the privilege ofknowing her.
Wanda's passion for education was not only a personal triumph but a gift sheshared generously as a teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools.With a Bachelors Degree from Radford College, she sculpted minds withpatience and wisdom, dedicating much of her career to adult learning andG.E.D. education, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and as a devoted member of Pembroke Christian Church, Wanda's commitment to her community was apparent in both her words and her actions. Her spiritual grace touched many, and her presence within the church community will be deeply missed.
Wanda's interests and hobbies painted the picture of a life well-lived and filledwith joy. She was the heart of her family, devoting special care into her role inthe lives of her nieces and nephews, like making special birthday cakes whenthey were young, crocheting their Christmas stockings, and spoiling her great-nieces and nephews. Her laughter was a frequent and welcome sound atauctions, a testament to her spirited nature. The magic of Walt Disney Worldcaptivated her imagination, and she relished the times spent playingdominoes with those she loved. She and Lee enjoyed 47 years of marriagetogether, and the two of them shared in adventures, travels, and manyprecious memories in love. In her essence, Wanda embodied the timeless words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes apart of us." Her love for her husband and family was the compass by whichshe navigated life, and it is this love that remains her most enduring legacy.
The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Reggie Britts officiating to celebrate the life Wanda so joyously gave to all.
