Wanda Fay Slack
Wanda Fay Slack, 70, of Madison Heights, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the UVA Medical Center.
Born in Lynchburg on October 23, 1954, Wanda was the daughter of the late Ralph and Frances Peters. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Peters, and sister, Sandra Cross.
A devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Wanda is survived by her five children: Joseph Slack, Jason Slack, James Slack, Jonathan Slack, and Elizabeth Groening; her sister, Rhonda Hillsman; her brother, Ryland Peters; fourteen cherished grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Wanda dedicated over 30 years of her life to healthcare, caring for others with compassion and grace. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her profession, as she continued to care for family and friends in any way she could. She had a deep love for reading—particularly the works of James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell—and she found joy in shopping, especially for her loved ones. A thoughtful gift-giver, she was known for preparing Christmas presents throughout the year. Wanda also had a special place in her heart for animals.
She was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she found spiritual comfort and community.
A memorial service celebrating Wanda’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, with Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church building fund, 882 Ebenezer Rd., Amherst, VA 24521.
Wanda’s legacy of love, kindness, and selfless care will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
