Wayne Williams

Wayne Curtis “Dude” Williams, age 83, of Covington, Virginia passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Lewis Gale Hospital Alleghany, Low Moor, Virginia.

Wayne was born on August 5, 1942 in Lincoln County, West Virgina to the late Homer and Vivian Stone Williams. He graduated in 1960 from Pax High School and served in the United States Army in Korea. Later in life he retired from Mead Westvaco as an oiler at the Carbon Plant where he worked for 50 years. He was an avid Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hattie Lou Plumley Williams; two sons, Bret Williams and wife Mary Ann of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia and Brian Williams and wife Margaret of Roanoke; a brother, Roger Williams and wife Anita of Covington; two grandchildren, Brianna Williams and Zoe Williams; and a special niece, Heather Williams.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Dean Bowser officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday afternoon from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
