William Archie Turner

April 4, 1932 - January 20, 2025

William Archie Turner passed away peacefully on January 20th after a courageous battle with Alzheimer dementia. He was born in 1932 in Roanoke Virginia to the late Calvin and Katherine Williams Turner. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ruth Turner Willingsley and Anna Mae Turner Jones; as well as two wives, his first wife, Janet Cutts Turner and his second wife, Alice Kaye Turner. 

Archie worked hard all of his life with the main goal in mind to provide the best he could for his family which he did. He attended Jefferson High School graduating in 1950. He spent the next 2 years selling bibles door to door in Salisbury North Carolina before entering the Military In 1952. He served until 1956. He then attended Virginia Tech and graduated with a BS degree in mathematics. He then worked with IBM retiring when he was 62 years old and continued to work with IBM part time until the age of 84. 

Archie loved reading, music, dancing, crossword puzzles , traveling, and spending time with his family. He had a sharp wit about him that we all will remember well. We want to give special thanks to Oumie's that gave him great care during his time at Magnolia Glen as well as the Wonderful care givers at Avendelle Assisted living. We also like to give special thanks to his great friends and former colleagues who supported him during his illness especially Mark Srsic who visited him every week for 2 years. 

Archie is survived by son, Vic Turner (Janet) of NC; daughter, Donna Erskine (Bob) of West Virginia; grandchildren, Nichole Turner Blough (Brad) of NC; Mitch Turner (Morgan) of NC; and Katherine Turner of NC; great grandchildren, Beckett Bough, Worth Blough, and Riggs Blough of NC; brother, Robert S. Turner of NC; and stepchildren, Wendy, Tammy, and David as well as their children.

A private memorial service was held for family in Roanoke, Virginia.
