William "Bill" Daniel Paugh

November 22, 1940 - April 11, 2025

William “Bill” Daniel Paugh, 84, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, at his residence. He was born November 22, 1940, in Oakland, Maryland to the late Daniel Webster Paugh and Bernice Arrington Paugh.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethel Mae Hairfield Paugh; son, Russell Paugh; one sister, Bernice Gertrude Hunnicutt; and one brother, Harold Paugh.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was the first in his family to graduate high school, an achievement that set the tone for a life marked by determination and hard work. After his military service, he dedicated over four decades, forty years and thirteen days, to RockTenn, working as a skilled machine operator. Outside of work, Bill found joy in the outdoors. He especially loved hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. The mountains held a special place in his heart, offering him peace and connection with nature. His life reflected perseverance, dedication, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures.

Bill is survived by his sons, Darryl Paugh and Steven Paugh; sister, Janet Elaine Beaver; grandchildren, Kayla Paugh, David Walker, Caitlyn Eanes, and Chloe Eanes; great-grandchildren, Hazel Mae, Jazlynn, Jared Jr. “Bubby”, Kayne, and Marley.

The funeral will be Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Kelly Ratcliff officiating. Internment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. Military Honors will be presented by The Martinsville & Henry County Veteran's Honor Guard. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
