William "Bill" Edward Gunnell

On Thursday, May 18, 2023, Bill Gunnell closed his eyes in this world and was welcomed into heaven by his Savior. Bill was born on September 6, 1937. Bill served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a Captain at the Danville Adult Detention Center when he retired. Bill was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid Nascar fan.
William “Bill” Edward Gunnell was the son of the late William Fleming Gunnell and Margaret Lester Gunnell. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Gibson Gunnell, his sons – William E. Gunnell, Jr. (Darlene) and Jeffrey Sowers. Grandchildren, Drew (Rachel), Derrick (Nicki), Drake and Chrisno Gunnell, Michael Sowers (Jaime), Christopher Sowers, and Summer Gore. Great Grandchildren – Conner Sowers and Adah Grace Gunnell.

He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Sowers.

A visitation will be held from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2023, at Highland Burial Park with Rev. David Abernathy officiating. Military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 1097.
