William "Bill" Ernest Barger
William “Bill” Ernest Barger, Jr., age 89, of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Born on October 31, 1936, in Bedford, VA, he was the son of the late William E. Barger, Sr., and Lucille W. Barger.
Bill was a longtime member of Timberlake Baptist Church. In his younger years, he served in the National Guard. He worked as a meat cutter for more than 40 years, spending his career with Kroger and Kings Market. After retiring, he returned to work for a time as a delivery driver for Central Delivery Express. Bill was a meek man known for his dedication and strong work ethic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janett A. Barger; his son, Douglas Barger (Lisa); his brother, Wayne Barger (Nancy); two grandchildren, Heather (Steven) and Kristina (Allen); four great-granddaughters, Kaylie, Natalie, Brielle, and Wrenlee; and one great-grandson, Carson.
Family and friends are encouraged to visit Whitten Timberlake Chapel on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to pay respects or sign the register book. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Virginia Memorial Park in the chapel, officiated by Pastor Bryan Ferrell and Don Bowman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Timberlake Baptist Church Building Fund, 21395 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24502.
