William David Cole
William David Cole, 96, of Danville, VA passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on February 5, 2025. He was born on May 7, 1928 in Danville, VA to the late Harry and Josie Cole. Mr. Cole worked 41 years at Dan River Mills Inc. prior to his retirement. He was a proud member of the Pocahontas Tribe (Red Men) organization and cherished the memories made over the years. Mr. Cole was also a charter member of North Danville Church of Christ.
Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Elfreda “Freda” Adkins Cole, brother Harry Cole Jr., and sisters Sarah Craig, Ella Clay, and Janie Cole. His niece Patsy Craig Wilkerson and nephews Wayne, Ronald, and Bobby Lee Craig.
He is survived by his devoted niece, Carolyn Craig Hundley, who he often referred to as “Sally”. Great Nephews and Nieces include Randy Blair also known as “my boy”. Diane, Meghan, and Mandi (Reilly) Blair commonly referred to as “his gals”. Susan, Blair, and Karson Hill. Allen, Steven (Amy), and Bella Wilkerson. Sherry (John), Brittany, and Kelly Rowan as well as Beth, Joseph, Gabriel, and Matteo Costagliola.
The family would like to extend great appreciation to his caregiver and friend, Pat Crews, who was with him until the end. We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Reilly Bray for all the love, care, and memories given throughout the years.
William enjoyed starting his mornings with a cup of black coffee and crispy bacon at Ruben’s on 41 with excellent service and care from the staff and owner Kathy. He enjoyed a long and beautiful life fishing, rabbit hunting, and cruising his truck around town. He was infamous for saying “oh boy” with every joyful moment. Faith was the foundation of his life and he prayed over every meal and everyone around him. His cunning wit and vibrant personality shined through with every conversation. William was a great man who will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
A Graveside Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:00am at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA, with Minister Hershel Stone officiating.
