So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Mr. William Dwight Harper, Sr. was born January 31, 1949, in Bedford, Virginia, to the late Emmett R. Harper and the late Rosie I. Harper. He departed this life on January 21, 2024, at his home. William was of the Holiness Faith. When you met William, you met a friend.

William held many jobs growing up. His passion was construction, operating heavy equipment, and driving dump trucks. He started out in construction working for J.R. Cundiff Construction for many years before venturing out to operate his own tractor trailer company with his brother Raymond. They traveled all over the United States with many trips to California. Later William made a name for himself by opening a new business, Harper Excavating and Hauling. He worked with numerous clients such as Clayton Homes, The Rock Query, Nation-Wide Homes, Oak Wood Homes, and many others. William loved to travel, fish, ride his pontoon, look after his cows, and have fun with his family and friends. He especially loved riding through Rock Run on his Ford F150 Truck. He loved his Ford!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sister, Maxine Rumley, Janet “Elaine” Rucker, Rebecca Harper, and Rosie Martin; five brothers, Benjamin “Benny” Harper, Emmett “Nelson” Harper, David “Dave” Harper, Robert Harper, and Raymond Harper.

William leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of over 50 years, Judy Harper of the home; two children, William “Dwight” Harper, Jr. (Valerie), and Melissa Harper; sister, Rachel “Ann” Young; two grandchildren, Iesha Livingston, and Mikel Carter; six grandchildren, a very close friend considered brother, Randy Cambell; a son-in-law, Tyrone Carter; one aunt, one uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Taiwan Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Harper Family Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

If I Should Go Tomorrow

If I should go tomorrow

It would never be good-bye,

For I have left my heart with you,

So, don’t you ever cry.
