William E. Burks
William E. Burks Sr., 91, of Evington, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Born on September 23, 1933 in Madison Heights, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Burks, Sr. and Rachel Burks. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred E. Burks; two sons, Jeffrey Burks and William Burks, Jr.; grandson, Stephen Bailey; two brothers, Ben F. Burks, Jr. and Preston E. Burks; and one sister, Frances Millner.
William was a good Christian man who loved to help people and was always preaching. He had hundreds of Bible verses written down throughout his home and was a faithful member of Calvary Cross Baptist Church. He was known for his green thumb and loved tending to his garden and working on his flower beds. His love of the outdoors was also evident by his love of fishing. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by daughters Wanda Bailey (Arnie) and Michele Fix (Tony); four grandsons; two granddaughters; three great grandsons; seven great granddaughters and seven step great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cross Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Wayne Hudson. Interment will immediately follow the service at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m., at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Calvary Cross Baptist Church, 1700 James Street, Lynchburg VA 24501.
