William "Hossey" Fred Clark

September 30, 1939 - October 5, 2024

William Fred "Hossey" Clark, 85, of Atkins, VA., had his health completely restored when he was taken to his Heavenly Home on October 5, 2024.

He was born on September 30, 1939, son of the late John Stoil and Nonnie Blanch Hash Clark. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Clark and his nephew, Keith Clark. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte H. Clark; children, Mellissa “Missy” A. Clark (Jeff) and William John (W.J.) Clark (Paula); brother, Larry “Pete” Adams (Willa); and sister, Judy Goodman (Norman); grandchildren, Kaley and Blake Clark; and special daughter and mother to his grandchildren, Julie A. Parks.

Our dad was a devoted dad and "paps" and was always there for us. He was born and raised in Atkins, VA. where numerous friendships and memories were made throughout the years. Dad loved his family and friends and spent much time with them. He served his country proudly in the 120th Transportation Company of the United States Army. During his time of service, he was honored to stand guard following President Kennedy’s assassination, the inauguration ceremony of President Johnson and he also drove Gov. Karl Fritjof Rolvaag of Minnesota within the motorcade during that time. Outside of his time of service, he loved baseball and played the position of catcher for the Atkins Baseball Team. Dad enjoyed riding horses and thoroughly enjoyed farming his land and cattle. His work ethic was unlike no other I know and was often called “Hossey” by those who knew him best. He was a charter member of the Atkins Fire Department, he retired from McNeil Furniture after being employed for 45 years and was a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Dad’s passing has left a great void in many lives. We cherish our memories and time spent with him and will forever be grateful to have been blessed with such a loving dad. God has promised us that one day we will meet again, and what a meeting that will be.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, 132 Churchland Dr, Atkins, VA., from 5 until 7 p.m.

Funeral services to honor his life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the church with Pastor Justin Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion where Military Rites from VFW Post 4667 and the Virginia Army National Guard will be rendered to honor his Military service.
