William John Friel
November 20, 1955 - December 15, 2022

William John Friel, age 67 of Glade Hill, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022. He was a loving father and grandfather.  Anyone who knew him would quickly learn his outgoing and personable demeanor.  As he would say, he got the gift of gab from his mom, and it was like he never met a stranger. He was strong, funny, and forever optimistic. He didn’t like to complain, no matter what struggle he would face. He had a huge heart and was always willing to lend a hand to his friends and loved ones in need. He was a pro at lighting up the room and the lack of his presence can already be felt. Everyone who knew him loved him. We will truly miss hearing his stories and jokes. The love he gave us will be cherished forever and missed always.  He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer, Melissa, and Courtney; four grandchildren, Maryam, Eesa, Aasiyah, and Faatimah; brothers, Edward and James; and sister, Mary. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Father Carlos Lerma officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
