William Nash Mays

September 8, 1930 - November 3, 2025

William Nash Mays, 95, passed away Monday, November 3, 2025. He was the son of Frank Early and Leafy Lillian Nash Mays.

Will was a graduate of Amherst County High School and the University of Virginia, class of 1951.

Will was a member of Ascension Episcopal Church, a 60 year member and President of the Amherst Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow, President of Winton Country Club, and Chairman of the Amherst County Board of Supervisors.

Will was a bank trust officer for 30 years. He was a member of The Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce where he received the "Dink" Floyd Award and the George Taylor Stewart III Award. Additionally, he was a member of the Centra Foundation Board, on the Board of Westminister Canterbury, Director of Planned Giving at Virginia Baptist Hospital, and on the Board of the Miller Home. He retired from The Pettyjohn Company at age 75.

Not only was Will a businessman, he was also a part- time farmer and helped his wife and son, Frank, in the wholesale nursery at their Sunnyside Boxwood Farm.

Will also coached Little League Baseball in Amherst as he loved the game and mentoring children.

Will leaves to cherish his memory his wife Susan of 64 years and his children Will Jr., Frank, Jennifer, and Mark and grandchildren Corinne, Ben, Margaret, Frances, and Cary. A special thank you to Shannon Carter and Shelby Woody for the excellent care they have provided to Will and the family.

Modesty as his trademark, Will wanted to be remembered as a hard worker, and by in large, someone who used good judgement. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 08, 2025 starting at 4:00 PM at Driskill Funeral Chapel. Norris Funeral Services-Driskill Chapel is serving the family.
