Willie "Billy" James Cosby

Willie James “Billy” Cosby, age 75, of Covington, died Friday, June 13, 2025 at the Brian Center in Low Moor.

Willie was born January 23, 1950 in Covington and was preceded in death by his parents, the late Edward and Dorothy Bowman Cosby; his wife, Louise Smith; two sons, Willie James Cosby, Jr. and William “Boomie” Julian Cosby.

Billy served his country in the United States Navy; while living in Richmond he was a Lawn Caretaker for Jimmy Dean Estate; and once he returned home, he was employed at Alleghany Regional Hospital until his retirement.

He leaves to mourn his death, a daughter, Dorothy M. Cosby of Covington; three grandchildren, Raquann Matthews of Waynesboro, Avion Brickhouse and Zoe Berryman of Covington; two great-granddaughters, Rayne Wilkens, Iyla Berryman of Covington; one sister, Nadine C. Horton of Waynesboro; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wilkerson of Richmond; a special nephew, Eddie Cosby of Waynesboro; three nieces, Pemberly Fountain, Nancy McLaurin, Tanisha Kumar of Richmond; a great-niece, Katura Cosby of Tyson Corner; a great- nephew, Isaiah Cooper of Roanoke; four devoted friends, Natasha Jackson, Averiana Stewart, Christiana M. Rocha, Dean Khaun; and numerous family members.

In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Harper officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to the time of service.

Arritt Funeral Home has been entrusted to handle Mr. Cosby’s arrangements.
