Willie Rodgers (Rodger) Whitlow
Willie Rodgers (Rodger) Whitlow, age 83, of Smyrna, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Willie was born on August 25, 1941, in Smyrna, Tennessee to the late Harry Whitlow and the late Nannie Agnes Young Whitlow. He was the last sibling in his family and was preceded in death by his three brothers: Starling, Everett and Harry Lynwood Whitlow.
Willie is survived by his wife, since November 21, 1962, Nancy Carol Smith Whitlow of the home. His beloved daughter, Sonya Rodgers Whitlow Stophel and her husband, Dr. James William Stophel of Winchester, TN. His beloved grandson and only grandchild, Andrew Rodgers Stophel and his wife, Moly Elizabeth Devine Stophel of Smyrna, TN and only great-granddaughter, Elizabeth (Ellie) Mae Stophel of Smyrna, TN.
He worked at Bassett Printing Corporation from 1957 until 1986, and was a supervisor there, and for the last ten years of his employment, he was the Plant Manager. He purchased Henry Memorial Park, Inc., March 31, 1984, and was the President, Owner, and Manager along with his wife, Nancy, until he sold to The Loewen Group on April 30, 1996.
He was a former member of the Virginia Cemetery Association, Southern Cemetery Association, American Cemetery Association, Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, Martinsville Retail Merchants, and served one year on the Board of Directors of Stepping Stones, Inc.
Willie was a member of Stanleytown Baptist Church from 1976 until 1996. Served for many years as Sunday School Superintendent and Head Usher. After 1996, he attended Amazing Grace Baptist Church, Victory Baptist Church, and Freedom Baptist Church.
He was an honor graduate of the class of 1959 from Bassett High School. Graduated April 18, 2001, from Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA from the Institute of Biblical Studies.
After he retired, he became an avid bowler and was on the Senior League with the Henry County Parks and Recreation for many years, received many trophies, and was so happy when he rolled a 300 game. He also enjoyed walking, spending time with his family, and traveling after his retirement.
