Roy Farmer

Roy Farmer, 90 passed peacefully on March 27, 2026 at his home in Vinton, Va. He was born November 9, 1935, in Hillsville, Va.

Roy was preceded in death by his twin brother, Coy Farmer; brother, Harry Bird Farmer; half brother, Cecil Edwards; and two sisters, Hattie Wheeler and Gladys Wells.

Roy was a loving and sweet man who was always willing to help his fellow man. Roy worked for Roanoke Ironworkers Local 697 for around 40 years, he loved it and missed it terribly after retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Wheeler Farmer; one daughter, Connie Durham and husband Mike; a very special sister in law and brother in law, Vickie Woodford and Jimmie Woodford; sister in law, Geraldine Emert; nephews, Jeffrey, Matthew, Darrell, Derrick, Chad, Greg; nieces, Lori, Christina, Gina, Mitzi; many other family members; and special friends, Ronnie Walters and Steve Ferguson.

The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 10:00 until 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow in the chapel of Lotz Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Pastor Robert “Bob” Phaup officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
