Iva June Anderson Newman

Iva June “I.J.”Anderson Newman, 78, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Iva was born in Danville, VA on July 28, 1947 to the late Edith Scearce Anderson and the late Charles Hadden Anderson. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Raymond Newman.

Iva was of the Christian Faith and a member of West Main Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, and served in the Wee Care Center. She was also a ABWA member. She worked for over 30 years as the clerk of juvenile and domestic court for the City of Danville, VA, previous to her retirement. She had a special love for bird watching and feeding her birds that came up in the yard and was an avid Duke Basketball fan.

In addition to her husband, Iva is survived by three special cousins; Janet Adams, Sandra Pierce, and Karen Arnn; along with many other special close friends.

In addition to her parents, Iva was predeceased by two sisters; Kay Anderson and Wendy Powell.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving and caring staff of Cardinal Senior Living, and her hospice nurses, Shey and Jordan.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 2:00 pm, at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA 24540, with Pastor Drew Herring officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2:00 pm also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA. At other times the family will receive family and friends at the residence.
