Kelley Garrett Brown
Kelley Garrett Brown of Roanoke, Virginia died on the morning of January 1, 2019. He died doing what he truly loved-working as a manager/supervisor for Atlas, a distributor of the Kroger organization. For almost two decades, Kelley served Kroger. The last decade Kelley served as a manager overseeing a crew of employees who came to revere and respect him. Kelley will be sorely missed by his co-workers, supervisors and crew members of Kroger. He was a dedicated, caring and devoted organizational worker and manager.
Kelley grew up in Rocky Mount/Franklin County, Virginia born on November 19, 1969, the son of respected community members Henry and Mary Jo Brown. Kelley’s father, Henry Brown worked for many years for Lynch Funeral Home in Rocky Mount. Kelley’s Mother, Mary Jo worked for the Rocky Mount United States Post office branch. The Brown’s are a revered, extended family of Rocky Mount, having dedicated years of devoted service to the community.
Kelley, a graduate of Virginia Tech in Business Administration, worked as a High School Industrial Arts / Agriculture Teacher in Kilmarnock, Virginia; he then held management positions on farms in both Virginia and North Carolina before coming to Roanoke to work with Kroger/Atlas in the early millennium.
He was an avid hunter, outdoor and wildlife lover and conservationist; he was an avid sports fan, especially his Alma Mater, Virginia Tech. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was teaching his son to drive in the months prior to his death.
He will be sorely missed by his workplace, family and community.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years. Kelley and Mary Van Brown celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary this past summer. He is also survived by his three children; Heather, Morgan and Garrett Brown. He is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Mary Jo Brown.
A Memorial Service will be held at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home in Rocky Mount on 220 on Saturday, January 5 at 2PM followed by a private interment. Officiating will be Reverend Dr. Hugh E. Brown III. Rector of All Saints Episcopal Church of Princeton, NJ.
