Alafla Proctor Eason
Alafla (Fla) Proctor Eason, 88, died on July 31, 2024, at King’s Grant Retirement Community in Martinsville, Virginia. She was born on January 16, 1936, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, to Zillie Lanier Proctor and Rufus Stephen Proctor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Richard Eason, and her siblings Louise Bottoms, Tom Proctor, Ed Proctor, Madge Williams, and R.S. Proctor, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Paul Richard Eason, and wife, Margie Beazley Eason, of Martinsville; granddaughter, Rachel Eason Keller, and husband, John Christian Keller, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia; grandson, Stephen Paul Eason, and wife, Jessica Kinyen Li Eason, of Roanoke, Virginia; and great granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth Keller.
Fla graduated from West Edgecombe High School in 1954 and married John later that year. She settled in Macclesfield, NC, where she lived until 2018. She worked at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Tarboro, NC, and later at Merchants and Farmers Bank in Macclesfield. Fla then was long-time secretary at Macclesfield Oil and LP Gas Company until her retirement. She was active in her community and church, serving as choir director of First Christian Church in Macclesfield for 50 years. She moved to Martinsville in 2018 to be near family.
Known as Mother, Granny, Aunt Fla, and Miss Fla, she loved her family, her church, travel, and music. She enjoyed annual “girls’ trips” to Emerald Isle, NC, with her aunts, cousins, nieces, and friends. Fla and John traveled extensively in the US and also visited Canada and England. They were especially fond of Sanibel Island in Florida and the Grapevine Canyon Ranch in Arizona. After her move to King’s Grant, Fla developed many new friendships and enjoyed visits from family and friends from North Carolina. She looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and her great granddaughter, affectionately known to Granny as “the little princess.”
The family wishes to thank the staff of King’s Grant for their loving care of Fla.
Memorial services will be held at King’s Grant Victory Chapel on Thursday, August 8th, at 3pm and at Macclesfield Christian Church on Saturday, August 10th, at 11am.
