Alberta Turner Brown

Alberta Turner Brown, age 89 of Ferrum, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023. She was born November 17, 1933, a daughter of the late Robert and Virginia Gillispie Turner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Wallace Gusler; and brother, Larry Turner. Alberta was retired from Fieldcrest Mills with over 42 years of service. She was also a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church. Surviving are her daughters, Brenda Layman (Kenneth), Debra Patterson (Ken), Karen Lawrence (Duane); grandchildren, Brian Layman (Robin), Derek Layman (Heather), Evan Layman (Renee) and Joey Boles (Rebecca); step-grandchildren, Sydney Collins (Duane) and Ryan McDaniel; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; half-siblings, Hubert D. Rakes, Jimmy Wayne Rakes and Betty Wray; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2023 with Rev. Derek Layman officiating. Her family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
