Aleta Toler George

Mrs. Aleta Toler George, age 74, of Vinton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, on October 23, 1950, Aleta was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Florence Smith Toler, and her dear brother, Ralph Lynn Toler.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Philip J. George, Jr.; her loving sons, Michael “Mike” (Kim) Spradlin and Philip J. “P.J.” George, III; her treasured grandchildren, Jake and Drew Spradlin; her cherished fur baby, Nikki; and countless lifelong friends and family.

Prior to her retirement, Aleta enjoyed a remarkable career spanning nearly 40 years in Telecommunications at Wells Fargo. Known for her professionalism and leadership, Aleta was much more than a trusted mentor and respected leader, she was a friend to her colleagues and a role model for many. Her dedication to excellence and her ability to inspire others left an enduring legacy that was fondly remembered long after her retirement.

The center of Aleta’s life here on earth was her family, her greatest pride and joy. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and “Nana” creating a home filled with warmth, love, and impeccable style. Her legendary gatherings combined delicious cooking, thoughtful touches, and a genuine love for bringing people together - a legacy that will live on in the memories of all who knew her.

Aleta and Phil shared 41 years of love and commitment that was nothing short of extraordinary. Their relationship was a testament to the power of partnership, filled with mutual respect, shared adventures, and endless laughter. Together, they built a life rich in love, creating a foundation that will forever inspire their family and friends. Aleta’s devotion extended to her sons, Mike and PJ, as she supported them wholeheartedly through every stage of their lives - attending every possible hockey game whether Mike was playing or coaching, and watching as many of PJs shows as she could, regardless of the band or instrument played. Her grandsons, Jake and Drew Spradlin, brought immeasurable joy to her life, becoming the light of her world. She relished every moment spent cheering them on at hockey and football games. Aleta was their #1 fan, celebrating their achievements with boundless pride and love, and always reminding them that she loved them “to the moon and back.” Aleta’s family wouldn’t be complete without her beloved fur baby, Nikki, whose companionship brought her constant happiness.

Aleta was an adventurer at heart, always seeking excitement and new experiences. Together with Phil, her family, and close friends, they traveled the country creating precious memories and embracing life to its fullest. From four-wheeling and water skiing to snow skiing and zip-lining, Aleta lived boldly, fearlessly embracing joy and excitement. Her adventurous spirit reflected her vibrant personality, inspiring everyone around her to approach life with the same enthusiasm and courage.

Aleta’s generosity was limitless, touching the lives of everyone she met. Aleta had a unique ability to make people feel special, and her loving spirit left a lasting imprint on the hearts of those who knew her. She was truly one in a million - a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose legacy of love will continue to inspire all whose lives she touched.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Lewis Gale Medical Center Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Good Samaritan Hospice. Their exceptional care and support brought immense comfort during her final days.

A gathering to celebrate Aleta’s life will be held on Saturday, December 28th, at Bonsack Baptist Church in the Roanoke Room from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Angels of Assisi; or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Aleta’s love and light will never fade. Her memory will forever bring comfort, joy, and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.
