Allen "Fishin' Pole" Edward Chambers

Allen Edward ‘Fishing Pole’ Chambers, age 72, of Covington, died January 4, 2024, at Lewis gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor, VA.

Allen was born July 13, 1951, in Gala, VA and was preceded in death by his parents, the late Shirley Thompson and Gyenetta Chambers Thompson.

After working for forty plus years at Westrock, he retired from working in the Power Department as a Team Leader and a Shift Forman.

Surviving is his wife of 27 years, Debbie Blakey Chambers; two sons, Kurell Wallace, and Rashad (Sara) Chambers of Covington; one daughter, Dr. La’Tisha Chambers (Rapheal Winfrey) of Richmond; three grandchildren, Kierra, Kyonna, Keegan of Covington; four sisters, Barbara Ann (Charles) Anderson, Betty (Charles) Lavender, Cindy Thompson of Roanoke, Frances (Victor) Jackson of Georgia; special grand dogs, Aric and Ace; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Ralph (Marie) Fitzpatrick, Tommy Smith, Gary Holloway of Covington, Donnie Hamm of Roanoke and Eddie Cosby of Staunton, VA.

Allen, affectionately called Fishing Pole was a member of Rising Mount Zion in Gala and often attended Concerned Christian Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting; was a tireless worker and a devoted family man, loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren and attended their sporting events. He enjoyed watching westerns on television, especially Gunsmoke and hosting friends for cookouts.

In keeping with his wishes his body will be cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Bishop Alfred Dearing officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
