On Sunday, August 30, 2026, Almarine "Alma" Finney Martin, 88, of Fieldale, VA peacefully passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She gracefully answered the calling of her name as she heard the gentle voice of Jesus say, "Come unto Me and rest." She peacefully left the loving arms of her family and entered eternal arms of her Savior.

Almarine was born on March 9, 1938 in Henry County, VA to the late Moses Winston and Mary Lee Hagwood Finney. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Martin; two daughters, Alma Charlene Martin and Brenda Kaye Martin; four brothers, Otis, John, Moses, Jr., and David Finney; two sisters, Dolly Staples and Bessie Oliver; two grandsons, Jesse Ruvon Martin and Sean Goddard, Jr., and one great grandson, JaQurion Hairston.

Almarine was a dedicated member of Rock Run Primitive Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as the mother of the church for the last six years until her health declined.

Over the years, she was employed at FieldCrest, Bassett Superior Lines and worked as a Nanny in NY. She was a dedicated member of the Bassett Booster Club for over fifteen years where she was known for making the best popcorn. Almarine took her title as Grandma serious, rarely missing school award ceremonies, graduations or sporting events.

Affectionately known as "Granny" a title she carried not only for her biological grandchildren but all the kids in the neighborhood. Alma had a heart of gold and a loving and kind spirit that drew others close to her so very easily. She would do anything that she could to help out anyone in need. She was a friend indeed to people of all ages and colors.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters; Berta Martin, Linda (Louis) Hairston and Mary "Fran" Carter. Her caretakers, Tiffany Martin, Tierra Martin Tamara Hairston, Tacara Martin and Jaylen Martin, 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren one great-great grandson, her best friend for over 80 years, Ann Jackie Johnson, her bonus daughters, Mattie Hairston, Cathy Johnson and Carolyn Preston and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held Monday, September 7, 2026 at 12:00 PM at First Baptist Church - East Martinsville with Elder Percy Stockton, eulogist. Burial will follow in the Finney Family Cemetery on Waycross Drive in Fieldale, VA. The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home at 415 Hardin Road, Fieldale, VA at other times. A public viewing will be held Sunday, September 6, 2026 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services Chapel.
