Ama Martin Ried

December 27, 1930 - March 30, 2024

Ama Lowe Martin Ried of Salem departed her earthly home to join her beloved husband, Linden J. Reid, in their heavenly home on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Ama was born in Paint Bank, VA, to the late Hampton and Monsell Martin. She graduated from New Castle High School as valedictorian of her class and attended Radford College. She retired from Roanoke College where she was administrative assistant to two of the college’s Presidents. Ama was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist in Salem where she was active in many activities. Through the years, she served on many committees at the church and was a certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church. She also had many friends at Fort Lewis Baptist Church where she attended bible study and participated in that church’s program for the Roanoke Rescue Mission.

Ama loved gardening and gladly shared her bounty with family and friends. She was often accused of talking to her tomato plants. Ama enjoyed spending time at Myrtle Beach and Florida, but it was always a joy to be at home. She was an avid Braves baseball fan, following them from her high school days to present. She would gladly discuss baseball with anyone up to the challenge.

Along with her husband of fifty-six years and parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Webb and Martha Hepfner.

Left behind to cherish her memories are a sister, Louvena Anderson; two nephews and a niece.

Funeral services and burial will be private in Eagle Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
