Annie Adie Beatrice Jones of Appomattox, Virginia
June 22, 1923 - October 20, 2022

Annie Adie Beatrice “Beenie” Thompson Jones, 99, of Spout Spring, died peacefully in her sleep at Babcock Manor on Thursday, October 20, 2022.  She was the wife of the late Edward Washington “E.D.” Jones.

Born in Rustburg, June 22, 1923, she was the 8th child out of 10 of the late Fred H. Thompson and Mary Moore Thompson.  Beenie was the last remaining member of the Salem United Methodist Church. She graduated from Rustburg High School in 1941. During her senior year there, she landed the heroin role in the school play.  Beenie played a vivacious pretty girl of 18 named Boots Boyd in the three-act comedy play “Boots and her Buddies or When Man Plays Maiden”. Her classmates described her as a cute girl who wore the prettiest dresses, sweet, smart and full of life. Beenie was employed by the Lynchburg Hoisery Mill for 14 years where she worked alongside her best friend Paige Hudnall.  Upon leaving her position at the Hoisery Mill, she became a homemaker, helping E.D. run the family farm.

Beenie loved a visit, and one would often find her sitting in her recliner with one leg over the arm of the chair, blasting Dr. Phil on volume 90 while eating ice cream.  She was known for being sassy, spunky and quick to tell you what was on her mind.  Beenie was a thoughtful soul, always sending greeting cards out to family and friends.

Even though Beenie and E.D. never had any children of their own, they had numerous nieces and nephews whom they loved like their own.  They all held a special place in their hearts, but especially Gwen Johnson and husband, Gordon, Freddie Keesee and wife, Sandy, Skeeter Sears and wife, Brenda, Jamie Hudnall and husband, Michael and Hayden Scruggs who all assisted with their care.  Thanks to their loving care, Beenie was able to remain in her home until the age of 98 until she transitioned over to Babcock Manor.

She was preceded in death by all of her siblings.

A graveside service will be held 3 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2022, at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dan Davis officiating.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Babcock Manor for the exceptional love, care and support that all the family has been shown over the past few months and Joyce Robinson who helped care for Beenie while she was at home.

This poem was given to Beenie when E.D. passed away back in 1999, and she wanted it to be included in her own obituary in hopes that it would help bring comfort knowing she is at peace now.

The Rose Still Blooms

A rose once grew where all could see,

Sheltered beside a garden wall.

And as the days passed swiftly by,

It spread its branches straight and tall.

Once day a beam of light shone through

A crevice that opened wide.

The rose bent gently towards its warmth,

Then passed beyond to the other side.

Now, you who deeply feel its loss,

Be comforted, the rose blooms there.

Its beauty even greater now,

Nurtured by God’s own loving care.
