Annie Sue Smithey Phelps

Annie Sue Smithey Phelps, 89, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026. Annie was born on April 2, 1937 to the late Ida May Perkins Smithey and the late Frank D. Smithey. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Fred William Phelps.

Annie was of the Christian Faith, and a member of Spring Garden Community Church where she sang in the church choir. She was a loving Homemaker for many years to her entire family.

Annie is survived by two sons; Elvis Phelps (Inez) of Chatham, VA and Freddie Lee Phelps (Trinnette) of Danville, VA; two sisters; Mary Huffine and Ollie Miller (Robin); three grandchildren; Carolyn Phelps (Thomas), Natasha Gasser (Daniel), and Sally Meadows; and a great grandchild; Joseph “Bentlee” Brandon.

In addition to her parents, Annie was predeceased by four brothers; Dewey, Willie, Robert, and Frank Smithey; and a sister; Lottie Porterfield.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 11:00am at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Clarke Crowder officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. A visitation will be held on the same day just prior to the service from 10-11:00am, also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel.
