Artie Welch Overstreet

On October 23, 2023, Artie Welch Overstreet, 94, of Thaxton, VA, passed away peacefully at the Bedford County Nursing Home with her family at her side.  Artie was the biological mother of seven children. However, many people considered Artie their surrogate mother. Everyone who met Artie was touched by her kindness, warmth and love of God. Artie Welch Overstreet was born in Bedford County, VA to the late Tilghman Welch and Gladys Mae Dooley. She was also preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Wesley Overstreet; sons, Ronnie Overstreet, James Welch and Eugene (Punkin) Welch; son-in-law; three grandchildren; and one great -grandson. Artie is survived by her sister, Gladys Mae Strangee, Bedford, VA; children, Wesley Overstreet, Jr. (Renee) Staffordsville, VA, Diane Carter (Jimmy) Thaxton, VA, Jeannette Harding Bedford, VA, Donald Overstreet (Janice) Botetourt, VA; daughter-in-law, Wanda Welch; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.  Artie was a faithful 50 year + member of Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, Thaxton, VA. Artie served as Church Secretary, Women’s Auxiliary Treasurer, Bible School Teacher, etc.  She leaves behind a legacy of dedication, faithfulness and servitude. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Bedford County Nursing Home, Patricia Jam (neighbor), Joann (niece) for their caring, loving and wonderful support. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Shane McSweeney and Rev. Earl Ragland officiating.
