Audrey Murphy Black

March 15, 1949 - October 7, 2026

Audrey Marie Murphy Black, 77, of Danville, formerly of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Stratford Health and Rehabilitation Center in Danville.

Born in Danville on March 15, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Robert Jennings Murphy and Audrey Harrell Murphy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Black, and her son, Dennie Wayne Black.

Audrey was a hardworking and dedicated woman who spent many years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. She also enjoyed a career as a real estate agent in the Lynchburg area, where she had the opportunity to meet and work with many people.

Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, Audrey enjoyed a good laugh and had a way of bringing a smile to those around her. She loved traveling, watching Hallmark movies, and enjoying a good Chinese meal. Audrey especially valued her friendships and the connections she made throughout her life. As her health declined and she was no longer able to get out as often, she continued to stay close to her friends through frequent telephone conversations. Those calls provided companionship, laughter, and a welcome opportunity to keep up with the people she loved.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Dawn Black Mies and husband John; her brother, John Robert Murphy and his wife, Susan; two sisters, Susan Lausi and her husband, Michel, and Mary Daisey Murphy; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren and other extended family members and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2026, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Pastor David Turner officiating.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
