Joyce Ann Honig Ewers

Joyce Ann Honig Ewers, who loved to be called “Mom” by her kids, departed her loving family on May 4, 2022.
She was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on August 4, 1938, to Willard and Edna Honig. She raised her two children, LaTrelle and Karl, with love and devotion in Concord, Virginia, with her husband Linwood E. Ewers, who preceded her in death on July 21, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda LaTrelle Ewers on November 25, 2001, and her granddaughter, Madelyn A. Ewers on April 15, 2021.
As a full-charge bookkeeper, Joyce was known for her experience and levels of expertise in administrative assistance, executive secretary, with excellent typing and shorthand skills. Graduating with honors, her studies included accounting, bookkeeping, business law, English, typing, and shorthand. Joyce’s hobbies included piano, guitar, singing, crocheting, and knitting. She was most proud of her Christmas dolls, Santa, Mrs. Santa, and the two carolers. Her other talent was drafting and designing of house plans and landscaping. She was noted to have taken drafting plans to a licensed drafter and was told they basically needed minor improvements. He approved and signed. She was that good.
She is survived by her son, Karl B. Ewers Retired USAF, residing in Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Patrick R. Ewers, Kathryn D. Ewers, and Kayla N. Ewers, Jason Biggs and wife, Jessica, and Eric Biggs; and her great-grandchildren, Brody D. Ewers (son of Madelyn Ewers) who shared his great-grandmother’s birthday, Alec Biggs, and Tayrn Biggs.
Joyce is also survived by her sisters, whom she doted on, Sylvia Silby, Barbara Womack, and Linda Honig-Smith; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Ewers; brother-in-law, Wilson Garrett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2022, at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Pastor Robert E. Lee.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Research Center can be made in Joyce H. Ewers’ name, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
