Silas “Gifford” Sykes

Silas “Gifford” Sykes, 81, of Bassett, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at UNC Rockingham Health Care. He was born in Washington County on January 15, 1941, to the late Silas Utah Sykes. and the late Vergie Wolfe Sykes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, John Dempsey Sykes and sister, Lola Prater.

Gifford is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judy Case Sykes; sons, Robert Dwayne Sykes (Amy) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Lonnie Ray Sykes (Crystal) of Bassett and Gregory Allen Sykes (Catherine) of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Chelsea Martin (Brandon), Hunter Sykes, Judith Sykes, Madison Ratliff (Matthew), Colt Sykes, Natalie Sykes, and Tony Sykes; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 28, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Joe Nunley officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
