Arne Fredrick Olsen

Arne Fredrik Olsen, 85, of Campbell County died Friday, November 18, 2022, at his residence, with family by his side. Arne was the husband of Rebecca J. Olsen.
Born in Washington, D.C., June 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Ada Kirsten Olsen and Arne Ferdinand Olsen, both of northern Norway. Arne leaves his wife of 53 years, Rebecca; daughter Rebecca Byrd Olsen, son Arne Edward Olsen, daughter-in-law Larissa Buccolo Olsen and triplet granddaughters Abigail Madeline Olsen, Annabelle Jane Olsen and Julia Charlotte Olsen. Arne also leaves his sister Joan O. Jowers and her large loving family.
Arne served in the United States Navy for 6 years, during that time he was a member of the commissioning detail of the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) thereby earning the distinction of “Plank Owner.”
After his Navy service Arne moved to Lynchburg, Virginia and worked for Babcock and Wilcock for 38 years. He filled positions in the Research and Development, Health Physics and the Naval Products Division of the company.
Arne was a member of the Concord Ruritan Club for many years. He was a member of the Salem, Virginia Chapter of the Sons of Norway. And he was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church of Appomattox, Virginia for 49 years serving the church as Register, Treasurer, Junior Warden, Senior Warden and Church Administrator.
A memorial service will be held on November 25, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Jean Anderson officiating. Family visitation in Rose Hall will be held after the service.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Westminster at Home Hospice for their care of Arne and his family during the last months of his life.
