Oscar Scales

Oscar Alexander Scales, Jr., 70, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at his residence. He was born October 22, 1952 in West Virginia to the late Oscar Alexander Scales, Sr. and Julia Thomas Scales. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Martin Scales.

He was pastor of Snow Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin County, and was happily retired. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, traveling and attending church.

Pastor Scales is survived by his daughters, Julia Scales, Razia Scales, Tahira Scales, Perwaiz Scales, and Stephanie Scales Stokes (Lawrence); son, Martin Scales (Rachel); sisters, Kelly Marie Scales and Mary Durant; brothers, James Alfonzo Scales, Sr., David Durant, and James Howard; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 12:00 Noon at Snow Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 9220 Sontag Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia. Visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will be private.
