Eugene Thomas Burleigh of Concord, Virginia
July 18, 1933 - April 28, 2023
Eugene Thomas Burleigh, 89, of Concord passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023, at his residence with his beloved dog Ginger by his side. He was the husband of the late Shirley Riley Burleigh for 47 years.
Born in Concord on July 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Joel Thomas “Buck” Burleigh and Hazel Shepherd Burleigh. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church of Concord, Reedy Spring Masonic Lodge #203 AF&AM, and the American Legion Post #16. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War. Eugene enjoyed wood working, fishing, working in his garden and metal machine shop and especially his weekly outings to the Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity Restore followed up with a meal at Cracker Barrell. He had a love of forestry and was a former beekeeper.
He is survived by two sons, Clifton Burleigh and fiancée, Bonnie Johnson and John Burleigh and wife, Deana both of Concord; four grandchildren, Matthew Burleigh and wife, Amber of Concord, Clay Burleigh and wife, Erin of Appomattox, Lee Dawson and wife, Chastity of Climax, and Tianna Toms of Amherst; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son, Joel Burleigh.
A funeral service will be held 11 am, Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Robinson Funeral Home with Rev. William Burleigh officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg, Va. at 1 pm.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm, Tuesday, May 2 at Robinson Funeral Home.
