Walter Curtis Burnette, Jr.

Walter Curtis Burnette, Jr., 72, of Appomattox, died Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Cindy Covington Burnette.
Born on July 27, 1951, in Lynchburg, Va., he was the son of the late Ida Virginia Rosser Burnette and Walter Curtis Burnette, Sr. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a member of New Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Dee Dee Michelle Burnette Hicks (Steven), Lori Jean Burnette, Renny Leigh Burnette Everett (Cody); two granddaughters, Amanda Lee Burnette and Jessica Kalee Hicks (Justin Klinesmith); a great-granddaughter, Novaleigh Grace Klinesmith; a sister, Frances Marie Burnette Arthur (William “Billy”); nephews, William “Will” Chapman Arthur, Jr., and Andrew Barnett Arthur; a niece, Mychal Brooke Shortridge Wright (Wyatt); and a great nephew, August O’Brien Wright.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda Sue and Michael Shortridge and a brother, Charles Allen Burnette.
A funeral service officiated by Rev. Philip Bailey will be held at 11 am, Thursday, February 1, 2024, at New Chapel Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to your local animal shelter.
