Billy Carter Coleman

Billy Carter Coleman, 91, of Appomattox passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of Lois Ann “Sis” Clarke Ellis Coleman.
Born on August 8, 1932, in Gladstone, VA, he was the son of the late Spurgeon James Coleman and Mary Inge Coleman. Billy worked for the railroad and Campbell Lumber Company. He served his country as a member of the United States Army in the Korean War. Billy will be remembered for his good sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Dianne Daulton, Sharon Smith and husband, Brian, Daniel Grady Ellis, and Ida Clarke; eight grandchildren, Amber Childress, Coy Coleman, Kelly Mitchell, Dayan Coleman, Amanda Hood, Josh Ellis, Justin Ellis, and Garrett Ellis; 19 great-grandchildren including, Trey, Trinity, Chaney, Isaac, Asher, Nathaniel, Sadie, Lillianna, Colton, Corbin, Kylie, and Emma.; 8 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley O’Brien.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Mann Coleman; son, Billy Larry Coleman; a grandson, Mikey Schieren; three brothers, David C., James B., and C. Preston Coleman; and two sisters; Katie C. Williams and Janice Cash.
A graveside service will be held 2 pm, Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Liberty Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Rev. Art Cavanaugh.
