George Phillip Wooten
George Phillip Wooten 83, of Appomattox passed away on September 5, 2024, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born in Buckingham, Virginia on October 29, 1940, he was the son of the late George Matthew Wooten and Dorothy Kinchen. He was a lifelong member of Vera in Appomattox County and graduated from Appomattox County High School. George served with dedication in the Army National Guard. He was well-known both for his career at Amelia Dress and as a self-employed individual. George was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, mowing grass, and tinkering at his shop.
George is survived by his loving wife, Mary Wooten, his daughters, Penny Pairet (Tommy), Cindy Wooten, and Cheryl Austin (Tim). He leaves behind grandchildren, Samantha Keohane (Isaac), Thomas Pairet, Lindsay Austin, and Madelyn Austin, as well as a great-grandchild, Oaklen George Pairet. George’s siblings include Connie Gobble, Dorothy Clements (Charlie), and Buck Wooten (Brenda). One sister-in-law, Mae Wooten. He was also a proud uncle to several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Wooten.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Barbara Goin for her dedication and care during George’s illness.
George’s legacy of love for his family and his zest for life outdoors will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held 3 pm, Sunday, September 8, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Moore officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
