Robert "Bobby" Edward Padgett
The gates of Heaven were flung open on Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 2024 to welcome Robert “Bobby” Edward Padgett, 73, affectionately known as Dianne’s beloved, Dad, Daddy, and B-Pop, of Lynchburg, Virginia.
Bobby was reunited with his doting mama, Blanche Wilson Davis Rowles, and his warmhearted sister, Carolyn Padgett Falwell.
Bobby was overfed, showered with love, and well respected by his wife, Elizabeth Dianne Davidson Padgett in marriage for over 51 years. According to Dianne, it was her freshman year cheerleading skirt that caught his eye at William Campbell High School, during his Senior year. They soon married at Falling River Baptist Church in the summer of 1973, on June 29 after her high school graduation. Their son, Joshua Colby Padgett, and daughter, Jessica Padgett Bullock, never tired of hearing how proud he was of them.
Bobby never missed an opportunity to show an example for what he truly believed regarding Jesus’ teachings for unconditional love to Joshua's husband, Chey Sheafe. Bobby made countless trips, by car, truck, train, and plane to spend weeks away from home with ‘his sons’.
Bobby never failed to let his daughter, Jessica Bullock, know that he was so thankful and happy that she had David as her husband. He appreciated how David selflessly did things for him and Dianne anytime he asked. Bobby enjoyed “grown-up” conversations with grandson Eli, whom he referred to as “Sugar Rat”. B-Pop enjoyed getting updates and spending time with his bonus grandson Cassell Bullock, his wife Christina, great grandsons, Henry and Hudson, and his only bonus grand-daughter, Cameron Bullock …especially when Cami would help him do work.
In addition to his children’s families, Bobby embraced his sister’s children as his own, with camping trips to amusement parks and buckets of chicken at the Peaks of Otter, sleep overs, holidays, with Greg Falwell, Janice Jones and Brian Falwell.
Uncle Bobby had no problem calling his nephew, Travis Carwile to help him with a project. Sarah, Travis’s wife, and Lilly, their daughter, were never surprised to see Uncle Bobby pull up in their driveway unannounced. Lilly would always patiently answer all of Bobby’s questions about the latest events she excels at, such as soccer, gymnastics, and school.
Uncle Bobby enjoyed countless hours with his nephew, Chet Carwile, shooting the breeze, targets and deer. He had the deepest love and respect for Chet’s two daughters, Jaelyn and Kamdyn Carwile, and enjoyed all the fun they brought to family events, especially the family beach vacations.
Brock Davidson, who is married to Angie, is Bobby’s first nephew. Bobby would take Brock fishing and Brock would spend a lot of time at Bobby and Dianne’s home growing up.
Friends from childhood, Bobby and L.K. Carwile began making memories…and trouble in high school. L.K. married Lelia Dale Davidson Carwile, making Bobby and him brothers-in-law.
Over the past few years, Bobby was blessed with many-a fishing trips with another best friend, Billy Falwell. Billy and Bobby fished from piers up and down the east coast every chance they had.
Bobby, Jim Hyden, and Henry Stevens were great friends for over 40 years.
Bobby loved NASCAR driver Richard Petty, Yankees baseball, watching Eli play baseball, and country music, especially Alan Jackson. The actions in his life showed he loved God, his family, and his many friends. He was always kind to others, found the good in everyone and we never heard him speak bad of anyone. By example, he taught us to work to the best of our abilities, give it an extra 10%, and never quit.
He couldn’t wait to play “Take This Job and Shove It” by Johnny Paycheck when he retired from Columbia Propane Gas Company where he worked for almost 30 years. Although he was excited to leave, he loved the people he worked with. He couldn’t sit still so he worked at BWXT, Monelison Middle School, and Campbell County Landfill before retiring again.
A visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church of Concord, Virginia on Sunday, September 15 at 2 o’clock with the Celebration of Life beginning at 3 o’clock. Guests will have an opportunity to speak at the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for you to purposefully spend time with your loved ones to honor Bobby’s favorite pastime of socializing and loving others.
