Mary Ann Matthews
Mary Ann Crabb Matthews, 79, of Appomattox, passed away February 7, 2025, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the loving wife of Donald Ray Matthews for 59 years.
Born in Monroe, North Carolina, on September 2, 1945, she was the daughter of Inez Presley Crabb and Leonard Milton Crabb. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Mary Ann was a lifelong church member and a passionate believer in Christ. She spent her married life in ministry with her husband in churches across America and the world. If you met her, she would tell you about Jesus and ask if she could pray with you. Mary Ann found a passion later in life as a 4th grade teacher at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Appomattox. Her love for her students and from her students filled her with joy.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Matthews Shorter and husband, Larry of Appomattox; her son, David Matthews of Lawton, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Cameron Shorter Jewett and husband, Keith and Logan Shorter; one brother, Kenneth Wayne Crabb of Asheville, North Carolina; and a brother-in-law, Larry Matthews and wife, Jan.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Barry Crabb.
A funeral will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, February 12, 2025, in the sanctuary of Liberty Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Dr. Rusty Small. Burial will follow at 2 pm at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice, VA.
