Florence Anna Oliver Hix

Florence Anna Oliver Hix, 95, of Hixburg Road, Pamplin, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at home. She was the wife of the late John Wilson Hix, married on July 5, 1952.
She was born in Prospect, Virginia on September 2, 1929, and was the 7th of 8 children born to the late Mary Elizabeth “Bessie” Moon Oliver and Rueben Hutton Oliver. She was a member of Elon Baptist Church, where she served as clerk for many years and sang in the choir. She worked as the main office secretary at the Appomattox County High School, from the fall of 1974 until her retirement in the summer of 1982. She loved working in the yard, planting flowers and other plants.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Janet Hix, Tom and Vicki Hix, Jim and Sharon Hix; son-in-law Porter Scott and wife, Patty; ten grandchildren, Thomas Scott and wife, Jackie, John Hardwood Scott and wife, Brittney, Olivia Hix, Kate Hix, Baylor Hix, Clinton Robertson, Karie Robertson Williams and husband, Trey, Austin Robertson, G. W. Reynolds and wife, Debbie, Brian Page and wife, Shana; ten great-grandchildren, Charlie, June, John, James, Joseph, Luke, Levi, Easton, Oaklee and Harper; brother-in-law, Harwood Hix; and numerous nieces and nephews including Jane Hix, Danny Hix, and wife Debbie, Cynthia Smith and husband, Nathan, and Mary Beth Rolfe and husband, Dan.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Hix Scott; three sisters, Elizabeth Oliver, Sue Rae Thompson, Glenna Hix; four brothers, Russell, John, Tom, and Paul Oliver; three brothers-in-law, William Hix, Tom Hix, and John Thompson; six sisters-in-law, Mildred Hix, Kathy Hix, Elizabeth Oliver, Ellen Oliver, Erma Oliver, and Christine Oliver; nephew, Russ Oliver, and niece, Julie Hix.
The family would like to thank Florence’s caregivers, Tamika, Jennifer, Bessie, Jackie, Lilly, and Charlene for their loving care and special thanks to Centra Hospice and Diann Pickett.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, May 9, 2025, at Elon Baptist Church officiated by Pastors Rev. John Campbell and Jeremy Lakes. Burial will follow at Walker’s Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Hixburg.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Walker’s and other times at their residence.
