Benita Cary Hancock Bennett

Benita Cary Hancock Bennett, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Babcock Manor. She was twice widowed, from her first husband, Marshall DeFord Hancock, and her second husband, Athol Duane Bennett.
Born in Montpelier, VT, on January 21, 1933, she was the daughter of Elwood Cary and Grace Mary Dodge. Benita showed the love of the Lord by serving others. She worked as a nurse’s aide early in life and then joined her husband working on a cattle farm. She loved collecting antiques.
She is survived by her four children, Mary M. Grove and husband, Michael “Mike”, Douglas M. Hancock and wife, SueAnn, Margaret “Maggie” J. Hancock, and James H. Hancock and wife, Luann; five grandchildren, James “Jay” Mann and wife, Mindy, Marshall Hancock and wife, Jessica, Christopher Hancock and wife, Serena, Curtis Hancock, and Cory Hancock and wife, Marla; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Cary.
A graveside service will be held at 3pm, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Oak View Presbyterian Church Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Orville Gregory.
The family welcomes friends to visit with them from 3 to 5pm, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Michael Grove, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 368 Muddy Gray Patch Lane, Appomattox, VA.
